Self Mart - A Revolutionary Retail Store
The Self Mart Stores
We understand that there is a massive niche for this concept, we know that the success of this kind of retailing is to give the consumers the best value for the lowest possible prices, and as much choice that is available, an ever changing turn around of goods.
This should keep all our customers happy and look forward to returning to the stores to buy and buy again.
With the ever changing market, major high street stores are being heavily affected by the increasing use of internet shopping, a quick and easy way to purchase products that are available in the high street stores but at lower prices.
It is becoming apparent that the main retail stores which are surviving this expansion of internet retailing are the Discount Stores.
There is evidence to suggest that there has been a 200% growth within this sector in the last ten years, and no signs of it levelling off.
The top four discount stores in the UK are TK Maxx, TJ Hughes, Wilkinsons and Primark.
TK Maxx, originating in America over 29 years ago, brought the concept of high end fashion at low end prices to the UK. With its first store opening in Bristol, in 1994. Since the opening of this store they have expanded to over 200 stores across the UK mainland and Ireland. TK Maxx offers a wide selection of designer clothing, accessories, and home ware at discounted prices.
TJ Hughes is now trading in 50 stores nationwide, offering products at discounted prices. The main lines offered being home ware and last season’s cosmetics & perfumes.
Wilkinsons, a family owned and run store since 1930. They started with a single store in Leicester and have now progressed to 279 stores in England & Wales. Their main lines being toiletries, cosmetics and home essential all at discounted prices. Although Wilkinsons offers such products at these low prices, they are not always brand named products, they have also now diversified into having their own branded products made to meet the consumers demand, however, how much quality has been sacrificed to keep these products at low prices?
Primark, a discount clothing store which prides itself on low priced clothing with good quality, they have a clear focus on their market with super competitive prices. Many items being designed in a similar style to those found in the higher end high street stores and the designer label houses.
Of course the obvious discount retailer to cite is Wal*Mart, a multi national company with over six thousand discount stores worldwide. Wal*Mart opened its doors in the 1960’s and has been able to continue its growth within the retail sector and out live many competitors by their shear buying power. They are able to buy large quantities of stock enabling them to offer easy access to brand names at discounted prices.
With discount retailing surviving the expansion of retailing on the internet it has become obvious to Self Trading that the next stage in the Self Trading growth is to take our products, which we have been able to purchase at low prices through shop clearances, bankruptcies, overstocks etc. We have been able to sell these goods on to wholesalers, market traders and Ebayers, but with the opening of our Self Mart Store we will be able to sell direct to the consumers on the high street.
With the type of products that Self Trading is currently buying, we are able to maximise our profits by selling through our Self Mart stores, yet still offering the price conscious consumers the branded and other products at a heavily discounted price from the original retail price.
How will we work?
Self Trading will continue to expand on the buying of branded/designer high quality products at clearance prices and selling on in large quantities to the traders and the wholesalers.
Self Mart will then have the advantage of buying clearance products at favourable prices from Self Trading, enabling Self Mart to maximise its profits.
It has been agreed with all concerned that the first Self Mart Store will be financed solely by Daryl Self. Once the concept has been proven to work, we will continue our expansion plan and roll out more Self Mart Stores around the UK. It is not necessary but maybe in the future we may look to the banks for financial assistance to continue this rapid growth.
It is our aim that in the next five years there will be a further 10 Self Mart stores nationally.
With business experience in Franchising we plan to roll out many Self Mart stores nationally through Franchises, enabling a more rapid expansion of the Self Mart stores. Franchisees will be able to purchase their stock from Self Trading at the discounted prices, therefore being able to sell the products to their customers at a discounted retail price, and maximising the stores profits.
Within the next 2/3 years we aim to have Self Trading and Self Mart multi million pound concerns, with Self Mart having a flag ship store in the region of 20,000 + square foot.
