The Ovulation Test Strip is a discreet and easy to use test to let you know when you are about to ovulate.

What is Ovulation?

Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary. The egg then passes into the fallopian tube where it is ready to be fertilised. In order for pregnancy to occur, the egg must be fertilised by sperm within 24 hours after its release. Immediately prior to ovulation, the body produces a large amount of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) that triggers the release of a ripened egg from the ovary. This "LH surge" usually takes place in the middle of the menstrual cycle.

How does an ovulation test work?

The ovulation test detects a LH surge that ultimately predicts ovulation within the next 24-48 hour period. Knowing when you are ovulating is very important because this time period is your window of opportunity to fertilise the egg. Since this window is usually only open once a month and for a short period of time, being able to predict the LH surge is very helpful when trying to become pregnant. In Laboratory trials these tests have proved highly successful with an accuracy rate at more than 99.9% in detecting the LH surge in urine samples. The test is very reliable and simple to use and comes individually sealed and is CE Approved. Instructions for use are as below and are found on the back of every test strip package. As ovulation usually follows the start of the LH surge within 24-36 hours, then this is the time when you are at your most fertile. You should therefore have intercourse during this time so as to increase the chance of becoming pregnant.

At what time of the month should I do the test?

To determine when to begin testing, you need to work out the length of your menstrual cycle. The length of your cycle is from the first day of your period to the last day before your next period starts (count the first day of bleeding as day 1). At first calculate the usual length of your menstrual cycle for the last few months. Once you have worked out the average length of your cycle you can refer to the chart below which will show you on which day of your menstrual cycle you should begin testing.

Directions for use

Once you know when to begin testing you should collect and test the urine on a daily basis. As LH is synthesised in your body early in the morning you should only test later in the day ( between 2pm - 8pm) when it would show up in the urine. Collect the urine at about the same time each day and try to reduce liquid intake for about 2-3 hours beforehand so as not to dilute the sample. Collect a urine sample of at least 5ml in a clean, dry container. Remove the test strip from the pouch and use as soon as possible. Immerse the strip in the container for at least 10 seconds. Do not pass the Max ( maximum) line. Place the strip on a flat, non-absorbent surface and wait for the result. For the best results you may need to wait about 5 minutes for the full reaction to take place. Do not read the result after 10 minutes.

How to interpret the results.
Positive for L.H. surge If two colour bands are visible and the test band is of equal or greater colour intensity (darker) than the control band, this is a positive result and a good indication that the L.H. surge is occurring. You should ovulate within the next 24-36 hours. Sexual intercourse on the evening of the first positive test is advised.

Negative for L.H. surge If two bands are visible but the test band is of a less intense colour (paler) than the control band or cannot be seen, this means the L.H. level is at or near its normal level and that the surge is not in progress. You should continue with daily testing.

Invalid result.
If no control band appears within 10 minutes, the result is invalid and should be ignored. A visible control line is needed in all cases to confirm a proper test result. Repeat test with a new test kit.
